Cape Town Market and Fine Bros co-sponsored the annual
Fine Breede MTB Challenge 2013 held on Saturday the 13th April 2013
at the Laerskool Breerivier in Breerivier, Western Cape.
This event had a priceless backdrop of the Breeriver’s fruit and wine grape district, with a crisp morning air and a very pleasant afternoon. Adding the friendliness and hospitality of the locals makes this event not just a race on Cape Epic Calendar, but also a must visit on any tourist’s bucket list.
The challenge commenced at 8:30, and racing categories were:
50km/ 32km / 16km / 4km, starting with the shortest distances first.
CTM biking participants were Bronwyn Clark, Peter Matthews and Aldrin Smit, with the latter winning the 16km challenge by almost 20 minutes.
The mountain bike challenge was not the only festivities at the challenge, as the now famous and appetizing “potjie” competition, also marked Cape Town Market’s first entrance to this event. Other amenities included a cash bar, a DJ and other fun filled activities for everyone.
CTM’s “potjie” entry was headed by “MasterChef” Omar Allie, and onion peeler, Adrian de Villiers, and dished up an East Indian flavored Ahkni beef pot. The eventual winners were two energetic senior ladies, who impressed the judges with the rustic and popular offal pot. CTM has a respectable finish, with judges complimentary us on our display.
The wooden spoon was awarded to Fine Bros. MD, Grant Norman but he claimed foul play, and everyone agreed as he had a “Fowl” dish for his entry. For clarity, Grant’s poitjie was a chicken one!
An enjoyable day was had by all, with some reluctant people not wanting the day to end, as what could be deemed as the end of summer. CTM will be back to dish up more Cape Town cuisine at next year’s event, can’t wait!!!
